Summertime seems like the ideal time to build an open-top car, and I do like the look of the 918.
Very well moulded - little cleanup needed, few visible seam lines. There is a full engine and a lot of suspension details. Small touches like locating tabs for many items and locating holes and pins for the door mirrors are very useful. Decal sheet is very detailed and comprehensive and the decals are easy to apply. Clear parts very clear and not too thick. Very detailed interior - it has seat belt retainers for example, which is uncommon. They tyres are a good enough rubber like material.
The kit wheels (which I did not use) are noticeably too small. The front and rear bumpers could do with a few more mounting and gluing points. Some of the decals are very optimistic in terms of their tiny size. I didn't care so much for the "mesh" decal for the rear engine cover, it looks black on the sheet but looks brown when applied to the transparent part that carries it. There are some ugly chome parts that needed stripping before use.
A very nice kit in nearly all ways but it's too-small wheels let it down. At least 3rd party items can correct that problem.
Completed over 3 weeks in July 2026. Changed the wheels for some 3rd party ones of the same design but the correct size. Added number plates from my stash and added seatbelts, buckles and mats to the interior. Painted in Halfords no-name-just-a-number dark green with Revell Brown interior.
